Ohh Baby, You Are On a Roll. This Pumpkin Dessert Is Addictive

Ohh my goodness! Fall is here and the thought of sipping on hot apple cider with a dash of fresh nutmeg, watching football, and enjoying the cooler weather makes me want to jump into a pile of freshly raked leaves! But the really awesome thing worth FALLing for is this amazing recipe. I have to admit, I had never tried making a roll before.

Sure, I would oh and awe over magazines with pictures of pumpkin rolls, but the thought of actually making one seemed like so much work and something that might only be successful in a “test kitchen”.

I actually read the directions three times just to make sure I understood what I needed to do. The “Roll up in a powdered sugar tea towel kind of stumped me at first. When I rolled up the cake with the filling and it came out perfect I realized the wisdom in letting it cool like that.

Later when I watched a baking show I noticed that several of the contestants just rolled up the cake with the filling after it cooled. Unfortunately, the cake cracked. This method helps you achieve bakery perfection with your very first attempt.

This is what Marci says about this dessert recipe.

-This year I took the challenge. My only thought after finishing up the project was “What took me so long to try it!”

GO TO THE NEXT PAGE FOR INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTIONS.

Quick Tip: You can buy canned pumpkin puree or get a little crazy and make your own from fresh baking pumpkins.

What Happens When A Starbuck Pumpkin Spice Latte Collides With Bread Pudding?

I hadn’t really planned to make a pumpkin bread pudding, but sometimes when you are trying something new and using the ingredients on hand you just stumble across something absolutely mind boggling. That is what happened with this recipe. I had just made some pumpkin muffins the week before and had a half of a large can of pumpkin puree left in the fridge. I also had a loaf of bread that was starting to get a little stale so instead of just chucking it, I made some bread pudding. Pumpkin bread pudding!

It was such a huge hit my family asked me to make it again. This time we had company over and they wanted to know if I would be willing to share the recipe. Yikes! I didn’t even know exactly what the recipe was so I made it again and this time wrote everything down.

Basically, if you have what you need for a pumpkin pie plus some bread you have what you need for this comfort food. And trust me, I have even used day old French baguettes and they worked just fine. Which I think is one of the beautiful aspects about bread pudding. It is simple and resourceful.

GO TO THE NEXT PAGE FOR INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTIONS.

Quick Tip: I love making individual desserts when company comes over. You can divide this into small ramekins or even small wide mouthed canning jars.  For smaller jars you might want to put filled jars or ramekins on a tray and add in ½ inch water to keep from drying out.

Surprise Your Co-Workers With These Fun Brownies

My parents used to love to host Halloween parties when we were kids. My mom used to make a big stock pot of homemade root beer and you know what they used to carbonate the drink. Dry Ice! How perfect is that? And the other thing I loved growing up were all the fun outfits my mom would make. One year I was the good fairy from Pinocchio. One year I was a bumble bee and one year I dressed up as a Jack in the Box.

I loved it when we had kids and I could dress them up in fun outfits as well. They were so hilarious. For a few years I told our kids that Halloween was all about dressing up so they could hand out candy to people who can to the door dressed up. After a few years, they caught on that they should be the ones going door to door. Then they figured out if they sung “Trick or Treat” in three part harmony they would get twice as much candy. Brilliant! If only they applied that level of genius to cleaning their rooms!

Even though we have moved beyond dressing up, I still love making fun treats for my family. Thankfully three part harmony is totally optional.

This is what Melissa of Persnickety Plates has to say about this treat.

“Halloween Cream Cheese Swirl Brownies have a layer of rich, dark chocolate brownie topped with a layer of orange cheesecake then swirled together for a spooky treat.”

Quick tip. I just saw some supper cute Halloween sprinkles that would be adorable on top.

Buttermilk Biscuits to Warm Up you in the Morning

When I saw that Julia, Julia was coming out I could not wait. I absolutely love Nora Ephron and was excited to see how she blended the two stories together. I was not disappointed. As much as I love Nora Ephron who produced such classics like the movie  You’ve Got Mail, I absolutely adore Julia Childs. If you haven’t read My Life In France that Julia wrote with her nephew, run, don’t walk to your nearest bookstore of library and get it.  The book really captured all the things that people love about that great American legend.

Did you know Julia didn’t know how to cook at all when she was first engaged to be married to the love of her life, Paul Childs? She took classes so she would be able to tackle basic homemaking skills. It wasn’t until she became bored with learning how to make hats and play bridge during their time in France that Julia decided to take a culinary class, because the one thing she knew she had a passion for was eating! After enrolling in the class for housewives she decided she need more of a challenge and moved to the next level. I love that about her. She was willing to roll up her sleeves and learn something new. She never gave up. She was passionate and persistent in all that she did and she never forgot the basics. Like this simple recipe for biscuits.

This is what Susie said about the recipe she submitted to the Food Network.

“This is one of the first recipes I made by Julia Child and I still use it often. I like using these for a brunch or stuffed with ham & cheese for breakfast on the go.”

Quick Tip: These are perfect for egg breakfast sandwiches, but you can add a little fresh parmesan cheese and serve with potato soup!

The Secret Is Out On The Best Lemon Bars Ever And It Might Not Be What You Think

I can’t even begin to tell you how happy these bars make me!

I have even started making these in small spring form pans so I can actually cut this into a wedge and serve on a dainty plate with a fork.

Being able to use fresh lemons is the best way to make these.

We have a few neighbors with lemon trees and let me tell you the lemons taste amazing when you can pick them off the tree after the sugar has set in them.

The boy down the street is selling the lemons from his family tree to save up for a mountain bike. When I was on my walk one day I saw his card table set up with lemons and oranges. He was such a salesman that by the time I left I had way more lemons than I planned on purchasing. I used everyone and by the next week I had baked so many yummy lemon treats I had to go back to more. I get fresh lemons and he is learning to run a little business. I guess it is true.

When life gives you lemons make..Lemon Bars.

Ok, I guess that isn’t exactly how the saying goes but I think it still works.

This is what Paula Deen says about her recipe.

“It seems that every time there is a get together there is a platter of lemon bars. This recipe has been around forever.”

GO TO THE NEXT PAGE FOR INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTIONS.

Quick Tip: Instead of using lemons, try making this recipe using limes.

One Potato, Two Potato, Three Potato, Four…

Oohh man I wish I had kept track of how many pounds of potatoes our family have consumed over the years. Or maybe I should say truck loads!  We are huge fans of hash browns to potato soup and everything in between.

Potato sides are huge because they are so filling with makes them easy on the budget and when you have a houseful of family, friends, or guests, being able to feed every one without breaking the bank is a huge reality.

I remember when the main potato that was the most consumed were the russets. They are still super popular, but now there are other standards such as Yukon Gold and small red potato. Yeah for spuds of all shapes and sizes!

This is what Chelsea of Gal on a Mission has to say about this favorite side dish.

It’s a fantastic side dish or it really could be eaten for breakfast as well. It’s loaded with potato slices, cheese, bacon pieces and an awesome custard (eggs and milk).Everyone will be coming back for seconds!

Quick Tip: sprinkle the top with cut chives before serving.

Who has time to make something for a potluck? This recipe solves your problem.

Here is the thing, we used to attend a small church in the town we lived in for several years. the first Sunday of every month was potluck Sunday. Sounds great right? Wrong! I hated potluck Sunday.

It was a miracle to get everyone up and out the door. Let alone try to get something made to take. One Sunday I was so frustrated decided to skip potluck Sunday altogether!

It just wasn’t worth the stress, hassle, or mess.

There were plenty of Sundays I just opened a huge can of peaches, put them in a glass bowl and sprinkled a little cinnamon on top.

The bowl was always emptied, but I wished I had a better handle on what I could bring.

This recipe is something I could have totally prepared the night before so all I would have had to do it take it with me and put it in the oven. Live and learn!

This is what the gals in the kitchen have to say about this recipe.

I have never seen anything this amazing since Mabel brought her famous Noodle DoDa Spam Hotdish!

GO TO THE NEXT PAGE FOR INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTIONS.

Quick Tip: Go ahead and add whatever breakfast meat in this dish you want. I am a bit partial to peppered bacon, but a good sausage would also be great.

Save Some Dough With This Recipe!

For as long as our kids can remember I have always made fresh bread. Wheat bread, Parmesan garlic bread, and even chocolate bread. Put it this way, with 6 kids in the house that is A LOT of sandwiches. That isn’t even taking into consideration having a slice of toast with eggs in the morning. I would need to buy a freezer just to keep stocked up on bread if I didn’t make it fresh.

The other thing I would have needed to stock up on are all the sandwich fixings. Lunch meat, sandwich cheese, peanut butter, jelly..you name it. Why? Because even the heartier and more expensive whole wheat bread isn’t as filling as something home baked.

If our kids ate a sandwich on store bought bread they ended up eating twice as many. Now that really is a lot of lunch packing!

So while it may seem like baking bread is a totally labor of love, sometimes it just comes down to saving us some serious dough. Pun intended :~D

This is what Ashton of Something Swanky has to say about this Rising star… sorry I just can’t help myself!

Simple, plain jane, ah-freaking-mazing homemade white bread. It’s a classic, a staple in any home. And it comes straight from my mama.

GO TO THE NEXT PAGE FOR INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTIONS.

Quick Tip: Did you know you can freeze dough? Yep you can. Just put it in a airtight bag or container and when ready to use set out on counter for a few hours until defrosted.

Real men eat REAL food! This dish is loaded with all kinds of fresh and amazing food that anyone with an appetite will love.

Not I have to admit, I don’t always put this in a crust because to be honest, I am trying to shave off a few calories here and there, but this recipe is awesome because it can be made with or without the crust. The real flavor and nutrition is in the filling.
With a recipe like this you can do sop many amazing things to suit your preferences and please everyone who comes to the table. In fact you might want to go ahead and make a few versions. I know we have kids that love sauted mushrooms and some that really don’t so I could make one of each I mean why waste a perfectly good ingredient on a picky eater who is going to leave them on the plate?

You can also add in sun dried tomatoes, cubed zucchini, and I have even been known to toss some left-over rice or corn in just because I hate tossing out a small serving and know it will get eaten eventually.
Part of being a good household manager is trying to think of creative ways to re-purpose things and that includes how we deal with left-overs. Maybe this should have been called Left Over Quiche! Now that is success!

Think of yourself as on the threshold of unparalleled success. A whole clear, glorious life lies before you. Achieve! Achieve!     ~~ Andrew Carnegie

Quick Tip: Feel free to substitute the bacon for other meats. I personally Love Spinach Feta Chicken sausage.

So amazing and simple, this double chocolate fudge cookie only uses 6 ingredients to make.

I am used to baking cookies. A lot of cookies! In fact when our kids have friends that stop in one of the first things they do is head to the cookie jar because they know that something freshly baked is under the lid.

Since we have 6 kiddos..yes that is a lot..NO we didn’t set out to have 6 kids but what can I say, they are incredible people and our family wouldn’t be complete without everyone in it.

But back to the cookies and batches. I have had to make big batches of cookies for decades. Usually that means 4 batches at a time so that I can put a big container in the freezer and refill the jar as needed.

Well, we are down to only one kiddo still in the nest so my cookie consumption has dropped off considerably.

These cookies are awesome. If I need a quick batch baked up I can make these and have them ready in a flash without it becoming an all afternoon event. And these are all ingredients I can easily keep on hand.

In fact, I might just have a few boxes of mix stashed in the back corner so I can whip up a batch and take them to the next sport event. Fresh out of the oven double chocolate fudge cookies are amazing and you know what they say, “Caring is sharing!”

This is what Lauren says of her Betty Crocker inspired recipe.

Double Chocolate Chip Fudge Cookies are everything that is right in the world. Soft, sweet, so simple to make and only 6 ingredients needed!

GO TO THE NEXT PAGE TO GET INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTIONS.

Quick Tip: If you don’t have a chocolate cake mix try this with vanilla chips and another flavor of mix…mmm think pineapple with white chips..the combinations are endless.
