I Wouldn’t Last Long In The Amish Community! I Love Plugging This In And Forgetting About It!

I love that Julie added in the baked casserole version as well. You never know what you might need and when so having the option to cook it in the crock-pot or the oven is a big win. The fact that this isn’t a cream of soup base is pretty great as well. In fact, I think I have most of these ingredients already in my “cantry”! I will bet you do too so apron up and let’s make dinner!

Crock Pot Bacon Cheeseburger Tater Tot Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 10 strips bacon, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • dash of hot sauce, optional
  • 3 cups cheddar cheese, plus a little extra for topping if desired
  • 1 (12-16 oz) bag frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 (2 pound) bag frozen tater tots

Directions:

  1. In a large skillet brown ground beef, bacon, onion and garlic over medium heat until beef is no longer pink.
  2. Sprinkle the flour over the ground beef and stir well to combine.
  3. Stir in the milk, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce.
  4. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar, frozen vegetables and sour cream.
  6. Spray the crock pot with non-stick spray.
  7. Place some tater tots in the bottom of the crock pot.
  8. Pour meat gravy over tater tots.
  9. Arrange remaining tater tots on top.
  10. Cover and cook on LOW for 3-3 1/2 hours.
  11. In the last 10 minutes of cooking sprinkle with extra cheddar if desired.
  12. Cover and finish cooking.

Quick Tip: If you would like to make this recipe in the oven, spread meat gravy in a 9×13 casserole dish and top with tater tots. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until the tater tots are to your liking.

WHY WOULD ANYBODY GO TO THE TIME OF COOKING ALL THE INGREDIENTS AND THEN PUT IT IN THE CROCKPOT FOR 3 1/2 HRS, WHEN YOU CAN BAKE IT FOR 35-40 MINS? DUH!!!

I love being able to cook things up if they cook at different times and temperatures and then if it is a big gathering, I will put the dish in a crock pot to keep it warm or allow to simmer while company arrives so we don’t have to worry about dinner getting cold. But that is just my preference. If someone goes back for seconds it is nice that it is still just as hot as their first serving.
