Where’s The Beef?? RIGHT HERE in this All American Dish!

The other thing that really surprised me was that the pasta is cooked in the tomato sauce and broth. You know what that means right?

Less mess! This is basically a one pot dish! I have a cast iron dutch oven that I use for this and it is ready to go from the stove to the table.

Beefy American Goulash

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 lbs uncooked 95% lean ground beef
  • 2 medium yellow onions, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 (14.5 oz) cans diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoons seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 oz uncooked elbow macaroni

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Place the ground beef in a large dutch oven and bring over medium heat.-  you can also use a big pasta pot if you don’t have a dutch oven.
  2. Cook, breaking up with a spoon or spatula, until the meat is browned and in small pieces.
  3. Drain the grease from the pan.
  4. Add the onions and garlic and stir together. Continue to cook for another 5 minutes or until onions are translucent.
  5. Add the water, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, bay leaves, soy sauce, seasoned salt, paprika and black pepper and stir together.
  6. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat. Cover the pot and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Add the macaroni and stir until well combined. Re-cover the pot and simmer for 20-25 minutes until the macaroni is cooked through.
  8. Remove from heat, stir and remove the bay leaves. Allow to sit for 15 minutes before serving.

Quick Tip: Serve this up with a green salad and breadsticks and you have a great dinner that will be just as good as left-overs!

I love onions but even for me that seems like an awfully lot of onion!!!

It does, but they totally cook down and adds a lot of flavor to the dish. I use sweet onions.

I made this goulash recipe this week and it was delicious, maybe better than mom used to make.
