You CAn Almost See The Chuckwagon!! Come and Get It!

I love recipes that I can teach to my kids. I figure if they have a few good recipes under their belts they will do better when they have to actually start cooking for themselves.

Best Salisbury Steak Ever.

Ingredients

For patties

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 c. breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp. ketchup
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

For gravy

  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 2 sprigs thyme
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 c. Mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp. all purpose flour
  • 1 c. beef stock
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp. tomato paste
  • kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Make patties: In a large bowl, combine beef, egg, breadcrumbs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and garlic.
  2. Season with salt and pepper and form into 4 oval patties.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat oil.
  4. Sear both sides of the patties, about 5 minutes per side, until a crust forms.
  5. Remove onto a plate.
  6. Wipe out skillet and add butter.
  7. Add onions and thyme to the skillet and stir until onion becomes translucent.
  8. Add mushrooms and cook until browned and tender, about 4 minutes.
  9. Sprinkle onions and Cook another 2 minutes, then add Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, and beef stock.
  10. Stir to combine and season with salt and pepper.
  11. Bring the gravy to a simmer and return the patties to the skillet.
  12. Cover and cook for 10-15 more minutes, until the patties are done and the sauce has thickened.

Quick Tip: See a sale on ground beef or other cuts of meat. G ahead and grab an extra package so that you can make this later. You can also add sausage and even crumbled bacon to this recipe.
