So Good You Might Be Tempted To Lick The Plate

The first time I made this for our kids piano recite dessert table I had a swarm of moms asking for the recipe. It was so yummy, yet it was so simple I was almost afraid to let them in on how easy it was to make. Seriously, I think I saw on of the Grandma’s licking her fork it is that good. You can image my surprise the next time a recital rolled around and the piano teacher gave me the invitation with a yellow sticky note attached asking if I could bring the yummy dessert I had brought before.

I guess you could say it really was my encore performance!

I always thought that if you were going to make a dessert it needed to be labor intensive and time consuming, but this dessert is so easy it is almost a sin to tell people you make it from scratch.

Here is what Lidia of Yummiest Foods.com has to say about her crowd pleasing recipe.

“Chocolate Lush – perfect combination of cream cheese, cool whip and pecans! This recipe is very easy to make and it is so delicious! Layer after layer of chocolate fantasy – Chocolate Lush!”

Quick Tip. If you are not a huge Cool Whip person feel free to make up whipped cream and sweeten with powdered sugar.

Perfect Fall Dessert and So Easy To Make

I love fall time. Pulling out favorite sweaters, starting a fire in the fireplace, and eating lots of comfort foot. This classic apple dessert is among my very favorite fall recipes. It combines apples, caramel and oats. Our neighbors had an apple tree and I loved getting apples from her. One year the tree was so full of apples that she told everyone she knew if they wanted apples they should come and get them before the deer ate them up. I made sure to head over and Could not believe how the branches were just drooping under the weight of all the fruit.

Since we lived in the Sierra mountains, the apples needed to be a variety that could withstand frost. They were Arkansas Blacks, and let me tell you, those apples were so hard it was almost impossible to take a bite out of them. Not like the Pink Lady of Honey Crisp Apples. These were super hard and kind of tart, but they made the best pies and crisps. They might have taken a little extra work but we ended up gathering about 2 laundry baskets full!

This is what Lauren has to say about her Applicious dessert.

“My traditional apple crisp recipe has received rave reviews, and this Caramel Pecan Apple Crisp takes my old favorite to a whole new level! “

Quick Tip: Want to add a bit of holiday flare? Toss a handful of fresh cranberries into the apple filling.

And You Thought Starbucks Had The Corner On Pumpkin Latte Flavors

I LOVE pumpkin anything! In fact, I love pumpkin flavors so much I decided to make my own puree by starting out with a fresh pumpkin and let me tell you, it was so good. I ended up going back and getting several more baking pumpkins, cooking them up, and putting the puree in freezer bags. They have been in there since last fall and I an anxious to break out a few new pumpkin recipes to celebrate with comfort food time of year!

My mom is usually our pumpkin pie baker. She has the magic touch when it comes to the perfect flaky crusts. If something happens that she doesn’t make dessert we are kind of up the creek without a paddle because I just don’t know if I could pull it off. But having a different dessert that is a bit easier, well that is okay with me. This is like having pie with whip cream all in one dish.

Whether you are using fresh pumpkin or canned puree, you are sure to be a big fan of this no-bake dessert that just screams “Welcome FALL!”

Sorry, I can barely contain my pumpkin obsession!

This is what Kristyn of Lil Luna has to say about this dessert.

“This next dessert is one that EVERY pumpkin lover will enjoy. It’s one of those Layered desserts that everyone devours during the summer time, and I’m calling it Pumpkin Delight! With a pecan layer, cream cheese layer, pumpkin and pudding layer and a Cool Whip layer on top, it’s sure to be a hit at your home!”

Quick Tip: You can make this in an oblong pan or divide it into 2 spring form pans. How is that for being as close to traditional pumpkin pie as you can get?

I Couldn’t Believe My Eyes When I saw My Grandmother Pull This From The Oven

I just can’t get enough of baked apples! Anything with baked apples, oats, and cinnamon just reminds me of fall. It is my favorite kind of comfort food and I never get tired of it.. EVER! I know this recipe is supposed to be for a dessert, but with all the apples, eggs, and oats it should count for a breakfast food! Because seriously when I smelled this baking in the oven the last thing I wanted to do was wait until after dinner. I was ready to just grab a fork and cut myself a big piece.

My Great Grandma Upton would have loved this recipe. She cooked a lot of her meals in a cast iron skillet that looked like it could have weighed as much as she did. It had been seasoned from years of use and she was careful to make sure to clean it up and dry it before putting it back in her oven where she kept it.

I love this recipe because it really isn’t a pie or a cake, but can be sliced up in wedges and served with a dollop of Cool-whip, whipping cream, or even a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Go ahead and serve this right from the skillet onto the plates. That is exactly what my Great Grandmother would have done as well.

Quick Tip: Make sure you get good baking apple for this dessert. I love Pink Lady and Honey Crisp, but your just can’t go wrong with Granny Smith. And I don’t peel my apples when I bake them. I use the apples skins and all!

It can be hard to accommodate dietary restrictions without giving up taste. Now, you don’t have to!

When I saw that Martha Stewart had a recipe that not only looked amazing, but was gluten and dairy free, I had to check it out. Let’s face it, anything Martha makes is AMAZING! This recipe does not disappoint.

I often add toasted pecans to my homemade granola bars or breads but I had never ever considered grinding them up in a food processor to make a flour. At first I was worried it would be flat and too dense, but the secret is in the egg whites.

I love the taste of pecans, but the pecan pie that is often served at Christmas or Thanksgiving is just too rich for me. So if you have a guest or two that you know passes on dessert because of food issues, now you can proudly serve something everyone will enjoy and feel good about.

In fact, they may even want seconds so you might as well go ahead and whip up a double batch!

Let me know when they are done..I will be right over!

This is what Julia Childs said about dessert.

A party without cake is just a meeting.

Quick Tip:  If you want a design on your torte, lightly lay a paper doily on top before dusting and then carefully remove. Fancy Schmancy!
