Olive Garden Called. They Want Their Recipe Back!

I have baked my bread for years. While that may seem like a huge effort, I do have a true confession to make, I have a bread machine that actually does the work. All I do is add the ingredients and push the button.

The part that never gets old for me is the smell of the bread as it is baking.

I have heard that the smell of fresh baked bread elevates a persons sense of well being and I am a huge believer that it is true.  But, there is just something about our favorite eating place that trumps what I make at home. It is the breadsticks!

I can’t help start to salivate as soon as they set the linen lined basket on the table with the piping hot and buttery bread while we are waiting for our ordered items.

By the time our dinner is brought out the bread is gone and they ask if we would like them to bring more out. Are you kidding?  We will most likely have to ask for a take-home carton for the food because we have already eaten more bread in one sitting than we usually eat in a week.

When I saw this recipe, I thought I would take a chance on it, and boy is my family glad I did. We could have skipped the main course because everyone could not stop talking about the bread. And rightfully so!

Quick Tip: Make sure to set draft free area while dough is rising.I actually put my pan in the oven!

Big, Bold, Flavor, California Style!

When our family moved from California to Minnesota, I was in for a bit of a shock the first time we went to a large potluck, the menu was a bit different from what we ate in California, starting with the vegetables.

Salads could easily range from finely chopped iceberg lettuce to Jell-O with fruit cocktail in it, and a dollop of Cool Whip on top. They thought that a salad could be the main course was a bit foreign. Uff Da!

I am a huge fan of this salad, and this one has it all! In When the weather starts to get a little warm, and the local farmer’s market is full of fresh produce it is time to put away the soup pot. I have to admit, as much as I know having a salad with dinner is a good idea; sometimes I get a little bored with the same veggies tossed together in a bowl.

This is one of my go-to recipes that I never get tired of. Plus, I love the fact that I can cook up a bunch of chicken in the honey mustard glaze and set aside some in a freezer bag so we can enjoy another amazing salad by just popping it in the microwave and putting it over the rest of the garden goodness.

Quick Tip: If you are going to take a salad to a party or potluck but not serve it right away consider taking everything you need to combine later. So much less mess and crisp.
