I used to think that anything Red Velvet was a bunch of hype.

I mean how much flavor does red food coloring add? The answer? ZERO!

But the real secret it that it isn’t the red color that makes these stand out, it it the subtle flavor of cocoa against a buttery backdrop. Seriously I think my timer just went off..or it very well could be an angel getting it’s wings.

I found I don’t enjoy consuming so much red color just because it is..well you know. RED.

This recipe calls for enough color to make these brownies jump off the page with color. Woot Woot! But if being a bit more subdued is in order, feel free to cut the red coloring in half and call the cake something else.

Pink Champagne cake! Of course there isn’t any champagne in the cake, but then again there wasn’t any edible velvet in the first one either :~D

Because these are supposed to be more of a brownie, feel free to leave off the frosting if you don’t have time. Just lightly dust the top with powdered sugar.
I love the fact that these are finger foods. How many times have I brought regular brownies, or Rice Krispy Treat to events, only to set my tray down next to a dozen that are almost identical?

These delicate morsels are a twist on an old favorite so don’t be surprised if the tray disappears.

Here is what Haley of The Domestic Rebel has to say about her brownies.

These are so soft, chewy and moist and flavored with all that red velvet goodness. They have just a touch of cocoa powder to give it that oomph without it being a full-on chocolate brownie. And of course, the red color is GORGEOUS!

Quick Tip: Cut into small squares and place on plate, add a scoop of ice cream on top, whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate. YUM!

My mom used to make these butterscotch goodies that I thought were absolutely better than anything Mary See’s could come up with. For those who are familiar with Sees candy you know that is a pretty darned high standard.

For those who are familiar with Sees candy you know that is a pretty darned high standard. The black and white tiled stores are iconic in the west coast.

I loved the little treats and always assumed that My mom must have slaved over a hot stove to get all the yummy goodness into each small bite sized treat.

But when she shared her recipe I saw that is was very similar to this one. Just a hand full of ingredients.  And you don’t even need a candy thermometer!

My mom’s butterscotch treat didn’t have any chocolate on them, but I think the chocolate really dresses this up a bit.

This is what Melanie has to say about this scrumptious treat that kids will be begging for!

These babies are my go-to last minute dessert. Scotcheroos only require 6 ingredients, all of which are shelf stable so I can always have them in my pantry. They take 10 minutes to make and if you want to speed up setting the chocolate you can pop them in the fridge.

Quick Tip: Have a glass of cold milk handy..just sayin’. When your kids start taking these in their lunches, don’t be surprised if you get calls from other moms asking for the recipe!
